Frequently Asked Questions

When does the tour operate?

Everyday of the year with the exceptions of Christmas Day (25 Dec), New year’s Eve (31 Dec) and New Year’s Day (1 Jan).

Do I need to purchase in advance tickets for attractions such as Sydney Zoo and scenic World?

There is NO need to buy tickets for optionals (Scenic World, Sydney Zoo) in advance.

You can purchase them on the day of the tour from the tour guide by cash or by credit card.

This is our recommendation for the following reasons:

  1. You will not need to line up behind other customers (when you buy online you still need to line up to collect tickets).
  2. You will not choose incorrect time slot (we do not visit all places at the same time every day).
  3. You will not get separated from the group (which can happen when you line up for tickets individually).
  4. You will not get a refund in case of adverse weather (whilst when buying on the day of the tour will enable you to decide when you arrive there).
  5. The price of the tickets when buying from the tour guide is the same as it is online (and sometimes cheaper!).
What is the pick up and drop off time?

We usually pick up between 6.45 am to 8.15 am, and the specific time depends on your location. Please choose a pickup point from the list provided when making the booking. If arriving to Sydney CBD (City Centre) from outer suburbs, we recommend the pickup point next to Central Station. You can arrive to Central by train or bus from suburbs of Sydney.

Please allow an extra 10 minutes for the bus to arrive (Sydney traffic!).

Drop off by ferry at the City Centre is around 6 to 6.30 pm.

What is a charter?

A charter is a private tour. We currently offer charter for groups of 1 to 50 people.

Is the tour suitable for all?

This tour is for everyone. For young and “young in spirit”. The walks are pleasant and can be done by people of all ages and level of fitness.

What to wear?

As a general rule, you need a hat and a sunscreen in summer and comfortable footwear.

Closed in shoes are preferred. In winter a very good jumper/jacket and a beanie.

However, it is important to remember that whilst it is cooler in winter there is more rainfall during summertime so bring a light raincoat and/or umbrella.

** Do not forget to listen to the weather forecast the day before your trip!! **

How about the weather?

We do not cancel tours because of bad weather except in extreme conditions.

A wet and cool day or a day with a high cloud cover can be as rewarding as a sunny day in the Blue Mountains. The waterfalls tend to be more impressive, the wildlife is more active, it is more pleasant for bushwalking and the ‘blue’ effect is even stronger!

The only difficulty for sightseeing on the Blue Mountains is mist. This is very hard to predict and can even occur when there is a sunny weather forecast for Sydney!

Does Oz Trails cancel a tour?

We usually never cancel a tour. In extreme cases of a very poor weather forecast or a tragic event on the road leading to the Blue Mountains, we may reserve the right to cancel the tour.

There will be no cost to you and alternative date or alternative tour operator will be offered to you.

How large is the group and what vehicles do we use?

We conduct Fixed Itinerary Tours for up to 28 people in a deluxe air-conditioned mini coach. Our buses are accredited by the RMS and Transport NSW.

Can I stay overnight after the regular tour?

We can drop you at a place which does not take us away from our regular tour route.

On the Blue Mountains we recommend an overnight stay in Katoomba or Leura or Wentworth Falls. You may need to make your own way to your accommodation.

** We can provide a return transport the next day ONLY if there is an available seat – you will need to contact us in the morning of the return date to verify availability **

What students or age discounts are accepted?

We offer everyone the same low rate, much lower than most of our competitors. There Is no additional reduced rate for holders of student or senior cards.

Are you an accredited tour operator?

We are an accredited tour operator with Transport NSW (#24318) and have been operating since 1999. We are also licenced by NSW National Parks and have a Public Liability insurance.

Can children join the tours / Child seat on buses / Strollers and Prams?

Children can enjoy the tours with their families and friends. The child rate applies for ages 13 years old and under.

Infants under 2 years old can travel on their parent’s lap free of charge. Please let us know when making your booking. The buses are equipped with adult seatbelts and do not have the anchor points available in cars for car seat or booster – hence, it is not safe to use a child seat/booster.

As we use medium size coaches there is limited space to store a stroller/pram.

** Only small and collapsible prams can be accommodated – prior notice is required **

Can I take luggage on the tour?

Our buses carry small groups only so there is a limited space for luggage. Overnight bag ( small backpack) can be catered for, but please do not bring suitcases to the tour/bus.

During the low season there may be room for larger items if the bus is not fully booked.

** You must contact us prior to the tour to find out if this is possible **

Is there a wheelchair accessibility?

Unfortunately, we are not equipped to cater for these needs, and we are unable to carry wheelchairs or walking frames on the bus as this poses a projectile hazard in case of an accident. Passengers are required to be able to climb into and out of the bus without assistance and any passengers travelling with a fold up wheelchair must be accompanied by someone who is capable of folding and lifting the chair. Our drivers are also not permitted to assist with heavy lifting, due to Occupational Health and Safety legislation/policies.

** We must be notified of the requirement when booking or there may not be enough storage space for the chair **

Can I register on the day of the tour?

It is advisable to book your tour in advance. However, it may be possible to register on the day of the tour if you can get to the pickup point by the scheduled time.

It is advisable for last minute online bookings, to notify us of the booking via SMS or email (see Contact Us page).

What currency are prices listed in?

All prices listed and transactions made are in Australian Dollars (AUD).

Do we need to tip the guide?

Tipping is not compulsory in Australia. However, you are warmly welcomed to do so if you had a good day and believe that your tour guide has done a good job.

Do you offer a Gift Voucher?

You can certainly purchase a gift voucher which will be valid for ONE YEAR. The holder of the voucher will need to contact us a few days PRIOR to the day they wish to travel on.

It is best to email admin@oztrails.com.au

I arrive on a cruise ship or on an international flight in the morning – Can I join the tour?

You probably will NOT make it to the pickup point on time for your bus. You need to allow approximately two hours to go through immigration and commute to your pickup point.
